Find Your level
Designed to help you decide where you feel your skiing ability and confidence lies
The below levels are to give us an idea of what group would best suit you. We understand that it can be quite difficult to gauge your level and if you wish to discuss this with us first, please email us to do so. On most of our courses we offer between 3-6 groups, therefore there are a number of groups running at variable levels offering a means of switching levels if necessary. However, we sell our groups with the knowledge from yourself that you give us when booking. Therefore, we appreciate that a good judgement on the below but if you wish to speak to us about your level, please do contact us. If you feel you lie between two levels by all means say so.
Check your level against the descriptions below and make sure you place these on your booking details.
LEVEL 1 – Green Runs
You are confident to ski nursery slopes but have limited experience or become very anxious. You may have had only 1-2 weeks skiing experience or possibly have only been on a Dry Slope and not yet skied on snow.

LEVEL 2 – Greens & Easy Blue Runs
You are confident to ski easy green and blue runs but steeper, icy or awkward sections on Blues are tricky. Even though you’re not quite up to our minimum ski course level (Level 3) on most of our courses, we can still advise you on a suitable ski school or instructor in the resort, making it easy for you to come with friends who may be taking one of our courses. If there are a number of you at the same level we may be able to tailor-make a group or arrange a One to One (private) group.
We are currently looking at the possiblility of organising courses on certain weeks for novices so please enquire with our office.

LEVEL 3 – Blues and Easy Red Runs.
You are quite happy to ski parallel on all blue runs, at a reasonable speed, and are happy to tackle easy red runs. Reds that are steep, awkward or icy are tricky and you have not quite mastered how to control your speed and line on these slopes. Your fitness and/or age may alter your level slightly (please see below).
Ski Club Level Indicator – Blue On Piste.
Course Recommendations:
- All Mountain Performance Level 3+
- 3 Day Performance Level 3+
LEVEL 4 – Red runs and Easy Black Runs
You are confident to ski parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and easy black runs. Tackling blacks, bumps or going off piste is tricky. You can get around the mountain OK but would now like to be able to tackle more demanding slopes.
Course Recommendations: Any of our courses will suit you, but try…
LEVEL 5 – The Whole Mountain
You are confident to ski parallel at high speed on red runs, and fairly confident tackling bumpy blacks and off piste. You need to pick the route carefully off piste and on steep bumps. You can ski most places quite happily, are looking for new challenges and to feel comfortable and confident when negotiating everything that the mountain can offer you.
Course Recommendations: Any of our courses will suit you, but try…
LEVEL 6 – Faster, Steeper, Bumpier, Deeper – explore and be challenged!
You are confident to ski at high speed on blacks whatever the conditions, on bumps whatever size and off piste in all snow conditions. You can ski anywhere but now want real challenges; steeper slopes, deeper snow, bigger bumps and higher speeds.
Course Recommendations: Any of our courses will suit you, but try…
Speed & Fitness
- The levels described assume good speed and fitness. If you are below or above average fitness or speed, then please deduct or add 1/2 to 1 level as necessary.
Between Levels
You don’t have to be exact as the levels are just a guideline to get started. You may find you are between levels e.g. 2/3 or 3/4 or 4/5 or 5/6.
If you misjudge yourself, don’t worry! Our trainers are always capable of adjusting the groups, and if you feel you’re in the wrong group just speak to our trainers as early as possible within the course.
